Civil Canines

The Story Behind Civil Canines

Civil Canines was written to help dog owners better understand the behavior, communication, and emotional world of their dogs. After working with thousands of dogs as a professional trainer, one thing became clear. Most behavior problems are not caused by “bad dogs.” They come from misunderstandings between humans and dogs.

This book focuses on helping owners learn how dogs think, how they communicate through body language, and how small changes in training and daily routines can dramatically improve behavior. From leash reactivity and frustration to building calm, confident dogs, the goal of Civil Canines is to make dog behavior easier to understand for everyday owners.

Many people struggle with the same questions. Why does my dog bark at other dogs? Why does my dog seem anxious or overstimulated? How can I build better focus and communication? The book explores these topics through real experiences from years of dog training, along with practical insights that owners can apply in their daily lives.

At its core, Civil Canines is about building a better relationship between dogs and the people who love them. When we learn to read dogs more clearly and respond thoughtfully, we create calmer homes, stronger bonds, and more confident companions.
